Mac Rogers’ sixteen year old daughter, Elizabeth, started driving this year. It is likely that she hears about driver safety and danger issues from her dad more than any child ever did from any parent.

Mac is the Chief at Ray County Ambulance in Richmond where he and his staff and crews serve a 526 square mile area.

From his early days as a Boy Scout, Mac had a personal interest in helping others, initially earning his First Aid badge, then becoming a lifeguard, and then an Eagle Scout.

A Hard Lesson to Learn PDF Print E-mail

Ron and Jo Dawn Ashlock are active in their retirement. The couple plays in a band together. Jo Dawn sings and Ron plays the drums. Ron is an avid golfer. The Ashlocks also enjoyed motorcycling, taking day trips, and heading out from their home in Blue Springs to their lake cabin at Lake Pomme de Terre.

But in May of 2008, a motorcycle trip to their cabin ended in catastrophe.

PHI Enhanced Operations Communications Center Leading the Way to New Industry Safety Standards PDF Print E-mail
It is an understood amongst those in the air ambulance industry that accidents can happen. As we all know, flying has its risks. This is so clearly understood by those who have made air ambulance transportation their career, that there is a constant industry focus on safety enhancement and risk mitigation. And everyone is involved.

For PHI, safety never ceases to be essential. Their culture is built on and around it.

In January of 2006, the National Transportation Safety Board, (NTSB), reviewed seven weather-related fatal air ambulance accidents, both fixed-wing and rotor aircraft. From that meeting, four recommendations were submitted to the FAA to aid in the alleviation of risks that could lead to accidents. The recommendations essentially state that air operators should:  1) Incorporate the use of Night Vision Goggles. 2)  Qualify for the Part 135 Regulation which is a commercial on-demand charter that applies to commuter and charter air operators. 3) Incorporate the use of terrain avoidance equipment. 4) Have trained weather personnel in their dispatch centers.

Federal Reimbursement Initiative for Missouri Ambulance Agencies Could Bring Additional $14 Million PDF Print E-mail
Missouri hospitals, pharmacies, nursing homes and mental health institutions have for some time enjoyed significant Federal funding by participating as associations in a State/Federal program called a Federal Reimbursement Allocation (FRA). 

The FRA concept is based on a self-taxing plan whereby qualifying health care institutions impose a state tax on themselves which in turn creates a state fund that qualifies to receive additional funding through the Federal Medicaid program. 
 
The funds are then reimbursed back to the association of qualifying institutions, like the Missouri Hospital Association, on an equal share basis. The Federal Medicaid program match's every 39 cents of state money with 61 cents of federal money – a substantial financial supplement for any health care organization.

LifeFlight Eagle adds Night Vision Goggles – The Difference is Night and Day! PDF Print E-mail

NVGLifeFlight Eagle recently made a very significant investment in the overall safety of its air ambulance program which serves western Missouri and eastern Kansas.  The nonprofit program has added the use of Night Vision Goggles (NVG) to greatly enhance pilot visibility during nighttime transports.

NVGs have been used in military helicopter night time operations for decades, and most recently, have been identified as a key safety enhancement for air medical operations.
