Mac and PC Users are welcome! American Heart Association Instructor Workshop - Course will: 1. Analyze important points that can help others learn more effectively. 2. Compare and contrast effective ways to promote change. 3. Discuss basic and advanced science of resuscitation. 4. Understand the effectiveness of educational skills in the community Stethoscopy for Dummies In this “Ear Opening” session, new and improved methods and techniques are presented and lung and heart sounds are also played on simulators so all participants can hear the sounds rather than hear a “description” of the sound. Bring your own stethoscope! There will be a test! Bridging the Gap- Jeff Lindsey- Management Identify what we, as leaders have to do to make our work environment adaptable for each of the generations. Before you leave this session see why being a cusp may not be all that bad. Teacher Say, Student Do- Bob Page- Instructor In the movie Karate Kid, Miyagi told the young Danielson…”No such thing bad student, only bad teacher”…”Teacher say, student do” Ever wonder what that means? Does it apply to EMS Educators? When Words Aren’t Enough- Mary Sullivan Thomas – Clinical An overview of developmental disabilities, Alzheimer’s & suggestions for interacting. Suggestions for communicating with people who have autism and various other disabilities including an overview of basic sign language. You Mean It’s A Business –Jim McGee - Management This will be an interactive session for beginning and experienced EMS managers. We will discuss keys to a successful EMS business. Discussion and group sessions will be utilized. Game Show Review- Bob Page - Instructor Come on Down, you’re the next contestant on EMT Game Show Review! What a fun way to review EMT information from trauma to medical. Working in the Danger Zone - Bob Patterson - Management 1. Identify and review hazards to EMS providers in the workplace. 2. Review ambulance crash data to include types, causes and prevention. 3. Review the importance of training and policy for ambulance operations. 4. Identify the importance of Emergency Medical Dispatch in ensuring safe operations. Simulation or Reality-The New Dimension of Training- Jeff Lindsey- Instructor This session will look at the usefulness of simulation and how it fits into training our personnel. Should simulation replace actual hands on training? Does simulation have any effect in teaching personnel the skills they need to perform the job? Who learns best from using a simulator? Using written tests to evaluate student performance is a significant challenge faced by EMS Instructors. This becomes especially apparent as test results are double-checked by licensure exams and employers. At the same time, commonly available tools from publishers fail to provide valid and reliable instruments. Faced with competing demands for time and energy, the instructor is commonly left to fend for himself. During this session, Mark Terry will provide a number of tips for improving the use of written tests to assess student performance. General Session – DASH- Jeff Lindsey Join Jeff in this inspirational talk that will get you to look at life in a new way. It will look at those in EMS who went before us and those in our midst today.
